Kumawood Star Wayoosi Calls on President Mahama to Overhaul Ghana’s Sports Sector
Popular Kumawood actor Joseph Osei, widely known as Wayoosi, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to undertake a comprehensive overhaul of Ghana’s sports sector, including investigating the current leadership of the ministry and the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
In a viral video circulating on social media, the actor addressed what he described as an open letter to the President, reminding him of his campaign message of “Resetting Ghana.” According to Wayoosi, that vision should also extend to the country’s sports sector, which he believes requires urgent reforms.

Expressing concern over the state of Ghana football, Wayoosi argued that only the President has the authority to correct what he sees as longstanding challenges affecting the game. During his remarks, he made allegations about how football-related funds are managed and urged the government to thoroughly investigate the issues. These claims have not been independently verified.
The actor also referenced comments attributed to the recently resigned Black Stars head coach, who reportedly suggested that while the national team has quality players, improvement must begin away from the pitch by addressing underlying issues within the football system.
Wayoosi further called for an investigation into the performance of Sports Minister Hon. Kofi Adams, stating that if he is found unfit for the role, he should be replaced as part of broader reforms.
According to the actor, football remains one of the few activities capable of bringing Ghanaians together regardless of political affiliation, making it even more important to protect the integrity of the sport. He warned against delaying reforms and pointed to footage showing cutlasses and hoes being used to maintain some football pitches as an indication of the challenges facing sports infrastructure in the country.
